A 3D laser scanner is a high-speed measurement device that collects data at a rate of tens of thousands of points per second over a full 360° range around a machine. It measures distances by sending laser light back and forth between the scanner and the object without making direct contact, obtaining three-dimensional coordinate values based on the angles and distances of the emitted light. The data collected by the laser scanner is imported into specialized software, where the coordinate data is represented as points (dots) on a PC screen. The collection of measurement points is referred to as point cloud data. Since point cloud data is represented in three-dimensional positions, it allows for the verification of location information on a computer screen.
